Description

The popular Born Learning Trail creates valuable community resources for early childhood learning, and offers opportunities for visibility and volunteer engagement. These fun, physical learning activities are designed for parents or caregivers to play with young children in any outdoor setting - trails, parks, and school yards. Consider adding a bench or picnic table to your trail to promote longer stays and return visits.

Key components of this kit are the ten 12" by 24" .080 inch thick aluminum signs which are the same as most street signs and can be assembled onto wood or metal posts without backer boards. Each sign is printed with a unique playful, engaging activity based on early learning outcomes. Each has room for your localized imprint, sponsor names and/or a brief message. Laminate top helps protect against UV rays, graffiti, and moisture damage. Signs have a two to four year life expectancy, depending on weather conditions and climate. For best results, it is recommended to try and station the signs in the shade (at least partially), or if no shade is available, at lease position the sign with most of the day's sunlight hitting the back. Some fading/peeling may occur over time and is accelerated by heat and direct sunlight. Kits also include reusable stencils for shapes, letters, and a 12' hopscotch court that all relate to the sign activities. A Media and Installation Guide is also included.

Allow 2-4 weeks for standard production. A Rush service is available for an additional $200.00 and has a production time of two weeks or less.

Each Born Learning Trail Kit is localized with your organization name/logo at no extra cost. Print ready files must be in one of the following formats: .eps, .jpg, .pdf, .ps, .psd, .tif. If you have an artwork file in any other format, we encourage you to create a PDF file (Acrobat 4 version 1.3) Please make sure that all text is converted to "outlines" and that all images and text are at least 300 dpi.

Testimonials
  • “The Born learning trail kits are a wonderful addition to any community.

  • With a little pre-planning and a small installation team, the kits are easy to
  • install and instantly usable. We partnered with the leadership class through
  • our chamber of commerce for their class project. They aimed for raising enough
  • money to install three trails and were so successful, they installed five!
  • Permission was granted without any issues and we now have trails in city parks
  • and school playgrounds. The teams of 6-8 individuals physically installed these
  • trails in under two hours. They are high quality and we anticipate these
  • trails will continue serving our community for many years.”

  • “We have really been enjoying the signs. They were easy to install.

  • Families, preschools, daycares, the local library, and so many others have been
  • enjoying this great addition to our community. When the weather is nice we see
  • people out on the trail all the time. We enjoyed getting to be creative with
  • the items we painted on the trail and incorporated children’s books, nursery
  • rhymes, and even a Swiss theme to match the heritage of our town. I have
  • attached a few pictures for you to see. It turned out really great. We have
  • also added outdoor musical instruments to the trail and in the spring will be
  • adding a story trail as well. This is a great place for the community to come
  • play and learn with their children.”

  • "Installing a Born Learning Trail is an excellent way to utilize the

  • environment to generate thoughtful conversation between a caregiver and child.
  • It most certainly impacts the early childhood learning space and increases the
  • chances of children entering school ready to learn.

  • The thought of an indoor Born Learning build has always been discussed here

  • at the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, North-Northwest. In fact the latest
  • indoor project is one of two in our region. The approach this time was to bring
  • elements found at the park, indoors for children to explore year round.

  • By way of a grant, received from Zurich Insurance North America, we have

  • secured funding for five Born Learning Trails to go up during the summer of
  • 2016. Multiple locations will be selected. We thought that for the indoor
  • build, that Preservation for Human Dignity would be a perfect place. PHD was
  • choose due to its phenomenal work in consoling for maternal health issues.
  • Since the completion of the project, the space has served as a morale booster
  • for the PHD staff and a neat attraction for clients as they wait for
  • service."

  • “For us, the trails were relatively

  • easy to install. For our first trail, the City of Elgin simply mounted the
  • signs on their signpost rails and pounded them in for us! The other two trails
  • utilized skilled volunteers to dig the holes (with the auger) and install the
  • wooden posts.

  • We had volunteers paint the cement for

  • all three trails, and it was a GREAT team building activity. In all three
  • cases, trail sponsors sent teams to finish the trails, and they really enjoyed
  • the process.

  • In 2 out of 3 cases, volunteers chose

  • different hardware to attach the signs to the wooden posts. I think they
  • thought the provided screws were not hardy enough for the job.

  • Overall, our community LOVES these

  • trails. They are fun to install and fun to use. Our third one was installed at
  • a preschool yard, providing not only community members with the sign content
  • but giving teachers a new tool to use in their everyday lessons.”

“We absolutely love our trails. We

  • currently have 6 born learning trails, and will be installing our 7th
  • on memorial weekend.

  • Last summer we installed 4 kits in one

  • day with over 100 HOBY youth/teen volunteers who were accompanied by AmeriCorps
  • NCCC members. The kits were very easy to install with the directions.”
